Service provided for: Persons living with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, and their care partners, live well and thrive in their community.

Volunteer opportunities

In-Home Recreation: Volunteers provide weekly 1:1 recreational in-home visits designed to stimulate and engage the person living with dementia, improving quality of life and providing a measure of respite for the care partner.

The time commitment for this opportunity is 12 weeks, minimum 1.5 - 2 hours each week.

Minds in Motion©:  Minds in Motion is a community-based social program that incorporates physical activity and mental stimulation for people with early to mid-stage signs of dementia and their care partners. Volunteers get involved in the exercises, serve refreshments, and participate in cognitive activities.

The time commitment for this opportunity is 8 weeks, minimum 2 .5 hours each week.

Mission: For over 60 years, CNIB Lake Joe has been providing enriching camp experiences for Canadians with sight loss – where children are encouraged to shine, youth are empowered to thrive, and 'kids of all ages' enjoy recreational pursuits. Located in the heart of Muskoka, Ontario, CNIB Lake Joe is a one-of-a-kind accessible camp that stretches over 12.5 acres on the northwest corner of beautiful Lake Joseph. 

Volunteer opportunities: In-person camp counsellors; customer service & office support; online camp programming; leadership roles (Board and committees); special events;

Services provided for: People who are blind or partially sighted of all ages and their families.

Application Requirements:  Depends on level of volunteer role. Volunteers complete the volunteer application, provide references, attend an interview and orientation. Some volunteers may need to obtain a criminal reference check/vulnerable sector screen, drivers’ abstract, etc. Minimum age is 14. Volunteers who work with clients, client information or cash must be 19 or older. In-person camp counsellors stay onsite/over night at camp for 5 nights/6 days.

Services provided for:  The Collingwood General and Marine Hospital provides a variety of health care services to the more than 60,000 people who live and work in our community. We also provide essential health care services to more than 3.5 million vacationers and cottagers who visit the communities of Wasaga Beach, Collingwood, Stayner, Creemore and the Blue Mountains.

Volunteer opportunities: Volunteers play an integral part in the welcoming atmosphere that CGMH is known for. They help ensure the hospital is a comforting place for both patients and visitors, and that it runs smoothly and efficiently. The work of each and every volunteer at CGMH is greatly appreciated and valued by hospital staff and the community. Volunteers help In Patient Areas, Emergency, Ambulatory Care, Dialysis, Diagnostic Imaging, Surgical Day Care, Pet Therapy, Gift Shop, Patient Navigation (information desk), and Office Assistance

Application Requirements: Volunteers must be 16 years or older and be willing to work a minimum of one 4-hour shift each week.  An interview is required, a physical examination, have up to date immunizations and a current TB Test. Two references are required for each prospective volunteer. Training, orientation, volunteer garments (i.e., vests, golf shirts, tops) and parking passes are provided by Volunteer Services. Criminal record check and vulnerable sector  are required for all volunteers 18 and older.

North Simcoe Muskoka Self Management Program

Mission: Our program is one of 14 Self-Management Programs across the province of Ontario funded by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. We  provide no cost education and skills training workshops for health care providers as well as individuals living with chronic conditions across the North Simcoe Muskoka Region.

Service provided for:

  1. We offer free six-week workshops for adult individuals (18+) who are living with or a caregiver of someone living with a long-term health condition.

  2. We offer free self-management professional development training for health care providers living or working in the North Simcoe Muskoka region.

Volunteer opportunities: Peer Leaders for Living a Healthy Life workshops. & Facilitators for Health Care Provider Trainings.

Application Requirements: Will vary on the volunteer position. Volunteers must complete an application form, provide reference checks, and agree to participate in an interview in person or by phone at the discretion of the coordinator. Commit to attending our training program (the training and materials are provided free of cost). Must sign all applicable forms and submit evidence of a valid Police Vulnerable Sector Screening upon request.
